Best Asus PC Desktops for Linux

in case anyone who plans on installing ubuntu 9.04 considers buying this, i used an external usb dvd drive and not a thumbdrive, although i'm sure it would work.

this is not meant to be a workhorse, just a simple computer you can use to access the internet, check email and perform other low demand tasks with very little impact to your electric bill.

dvi input for monitor and spdif digital output for audio.

if you plan on using it for standard tasks such as browsing the internet, email, listening to music or watch movies(not all at the same time) it works great.

i now use it to program in vs, watch media on my computer, as well as what i previously envisioned.

i also purchased the asus white matching slim dvd drive (so that i could configure the new disk).

simply share a cd or dvd drive from another computer over your network if you need to load software from a cd.

addendum: now i have 2 - my wife continues to use the first one happily, and the second is my print, music, and home automation server.

this is not a gamer device nor is it intended to be.

i purchased this asus eee pc as an experiment, replacing my bulky media center pc (aka home theater pc or htpc), and i have been extremely satisfied so far.

i exchanged the internal hd with a bigger disk (which was very easy to do) and added an external 1 terabyte usb hd to have enough space for backups and media files.

this works very well for streaming audio files in combination with the logitech squeezebox/slimserver.
