This may very well be a good product PROVIDED you don't need customer service. Slingbox is not compatible with my AV source. They offer "complimentary" customer service for the first 90 days (after that it is $24.99/incident), but make it practically impossible to reach them.
But if you dont have some network experience or comfort working with your network devices, the setup is likely going to be very frustrating for you. The "setup assistant" tried to automatically setup two routers that I have, using the information that I provided, but it simply didn't work. Ultimately I had to go in and manually configure the IP address on the slingbox and then in the router I had to setup the rules to allow the port to be forwarded to the internet so that I could access the slingbox in the outside world. I'm an American currently living overseas in Poland and I have nothing but positive things to say about this product. I was a little nervous seeing previous reviews, but I am happy to say the Sling Box has lived up to my expectations! We have Dish Network at our home in the USA (no one is currently living there) and use the sling box to remotely access our dish while we're in Poland.
When it worked, it was nice. When it stopped working, oh boy.... I purchased my Slingbox last year as a Christmas present and the network went kaput 9 months after purchase. The product has a "1 year warranty".
I'm moving to Europe and purchased a Slingbox so that I could continue to watch American TV. I have loved being able to use it thus far, especially so I can catch NFL games!
well, I ordered the Slingbox from Amazon because it was a little cheaper than ordering from the website. It turns out that you need another item called the SlingLink Turbo if your computer and tv aren't side by side.
I bought Sling box solo in the hopes that it would work just as described by the good reviews. However.
I was a bit skeptical about the Slingbox solo - I was concerned that the set-up would be difficult and that the video quality would be poor. Well that simply is not the case, in fact it works a little better than I had hoped.
Slingbox is not straightforward to debug when problems arise. The online help is simplistic and not helpful beyond the most basic of problems.
My Slingbox Solo was a great purchase. I ran into some router port-forwarding issues during my initial setup, but the outstanding Slingbox Support Tech was able to get this configured for me (using remote access) very quickly.
