I needed to "split" a single Ethernet connection between my DirecTV box (for DTV on demand) and my Samsung BluRay DVD player (for Netflix streaming)so I did not have to keep swapping the cable back and forth. This little Trendnet gem really fit the bill. from Amazon.com I needed some more ethernet ports in my home network to attach a network storage device. Ordered one of these based on positive reviews. from Amazon.com Got this because I don't want to use wireless, and needed to get two laptops online at the same time. On opening, I read the manual, in the "technical details" section it says "this product was not designed to let two computers get online at the same time". WRONG! from Amazon.com If you need to split one ethernet connection 2-4 ways, this is a great and simple way to do it. It's a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. from Amazon.com I bought this switch, needing to add some ethernet lines to a 4 port U-verse gateway. I was disappointed when it arrived and the booklet coming with it said one could not hook up multiple devices to the internet via one port with this switch. from Amazon.com What a great product. It took 5 minutes to set it up and it works great. I connected it to my home Ethernet powerline adaptor and then I connected the PS2, the Dish DVR and the Sling player. My need for an additional wired connection arose when I decided to purchase a Sling Media Slingbox SOLO (SB260-100)(great product by the way). I tried one of them at home and it worked fine, so I don't think they were defective - there was just some kind of incompatibility. I borrowed a Netgear switch from my work and tried it and it worked, so I ordered 3 of the same model NETGEAR FS608 8-Port Fast Ethernet Switch to replace the TRENDnets.
