To keep it short, after trying a number of networking devices. I consider this HP 1400-8G + D-Link DGL-4100 as the ultimate affordable solution with excellent performance. To get better performance than this router switch combo, you are going to have to shell out alot more money. from Amazon.com I noticed a huge improvement in my data transfer speeds to my various computers and wireless systems, including the items that are only running 100 Gigabit. Only seems to run warm if you stack items on it. from Amazon.com I was told that high volume through cheaper switches can cause overheating and erratic performance, so I looked for a better quality switch and found the HP ProCurve to be both highly recommended and carries a lifetime warranty. I replaced the switch in our office system that affected my computer and after several months of use I and the others using it have ceased to have issues. from Amazon.com No problems. Other Thoughts: I use this switch in a home-theater/network closet. This is a good quality small gigabit switch with the ports and lights on the front to fit under a patch panel. The lifetime warranty can't be beat. from Newegg.com Pros: - Feels solid and looks sturdy - Just plug network cables in and then power into wall and you're ready to go - I like the LED's telling me which lines are connected and which are gigabit speeds from Amazon.com I plugged in the cables & power supply, and it just works. No problems. from Amazon.com Pros: Fast as lightning! Cons: None yet. Other Thoughts: There are an odd number of conflicting reviews here concerning Jumbo Frame support. One reviewer even cites an HP pdf to support his "no jumbos" point. from Newegg.com Pros: Ive been through 2DLINK and 3LiNKSYS switches and this is the first one that I havnt had to reset for some unknown reason. It doesnt support Jumbo frames but Ill take that over monthly/weekly resets of the Cisco/LinkSys/DLiNK brands. Cons: 1. from Newegg.com Pros: Detected, connected and worked from the moment it was powered up. Cons: None. Other Thoughts: Switch is not designed for jumbo frames.
