Worked great out of the box. After 3 months the hard drive failed. They use Seagate drives in these, maybe it's just me but I have had three seagate drives fail in the last year. from Amazon.com I had the earlier model of this drive running for four years non-stop in our basement, connected to a small home network. Never had a problem until finally the drive motor started sounded rough, so I bought this new model. from Amazon.com This drive is packaged well, is heavy due to its metal enclosure, and features a dark grey brushed metal surface. It comes with a short ethernet cable (3ft), a stand, quick installation guide, software CD, and power adapter. from Amazon.com I was very eager to receive this as we are a multi-computer household with movies, music, photos and more floating around everywhere. Not only computers with different operating systems, printers, scanners etc but we routinely play computer media files on the stereo or television plus we run different operating systems etc...the idea of having one central location sounded great and is very much needed. We have other storage devices including a small aresenal of usb drives, external hard drives, flash and cards etc...in short, transferring data around this house has become a bit of a past-time that is increasingly time consuming and frustrating to remember who has what and where. We want and need a network media storage device that actually works. from Amazon.com Great value and overall performance. I would have given this a 5 out of 5 if not for the fact that the drive is NOISY. Pros from Amazon.com I have been looking for a solution of how to network my home computers, including a couple of desktops, and laptops. Music particularly, and also pictures and videos have been hidden from view because having different computers has meant lugging zip drives, photo cards and media all over the house. This is replacing a failed SimpleShare (Simpletech) 250gb NAS drive that I had for a few years. I have a xbox 360 and two other media center type devices that will stream audio, photos, and videos. from Amazon.com The Iomega Home Media 500 GB Network Attached Storage 34336 is a 5-star product. Unfortunately, I would rate my experience with Iomega tech support as 1-star (according to Amazon's rating system that means "I hate it"). from Amazon.com I power it down, then power it back up. Lights on the case flash, then turn off once the NAS gets up to speed, about 20 seconds I think. The drive is still moving, but the same thing happens each time. I look in the lengthy Iomega forums and see other people have posted this problem. from Amazon.com First off, this hard drive gets 5 stars.
