Pros: Easy installation. Ubuntu 9.0.4 recognized the card immediately. For Vista I downloaded the drivers from the Intel website. Card works fine. from Newegg.com Pros: Got to love Intel for their NIC's as well. I bought two of these, one for my evga 780i failed onboard nic and other for my server which I rather use then the onboard Marvell. from Newegg.com Pros: Once drivers were available, the setup for XP went smoothly. Windows 7 32 and 64-bit driver available. http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-006120.htm Cons: No driver disk. Other Thoughts: Thanks to Professor Z for finding the drivers. from Newegg.com Pros: Plug it in, run the .exe driver installation, and you're online. Cons: Searching "EXPI9301CTBLK" on Intel's driver site finds nothing, and none of their ethernet controller model numbers match! The key is to search _pro 1000 ct_, and here's a direct URL to the driver:http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/CS-006120.htm Other Thoughts: I benchmarked this NIC against my onboard using speedtest.net. from Newegg.com Worked out-of-the-box with Windows 7. I'll note that I had a driver issue caused by my old card, so I had to do a fresh install. Can't fault Intel for my own computer problems though. I didn't have to install anything. from Amazon.com 8 months and I couldn't figure it out. Other Thoughts: Maybe it's some software conflict on my XP machine, maybe it's a defective card, who knows. All I know is that the onboard Realtek NIC works and Intel support never replied back. from Newegg.com Much better than the integrated NICs. Drivers are integrated into just about every alternative OS including Solaris, OpenSolaris, and Linux. Cons: none Other Thoughts: Intel really should provide a model that has 2 or more ports on a 1. X PCIE slot. from Newegg.com Cons: The connection indicates 1 GB but it doesn't seem to be any faster to load pages. Maybe I'm asking for too much.... Other Thoughts: Intel's generally a safe bet for motherboards and network cards from Newegg.com It provides a lot of options for total custom configuration. It moves data along my network faster and more consistent. It runs the famous Intel self-testing software. I could go on but you can read other positive reviews all saying the same things I do. from Newegg.com Pros: compact PCI-E 1x card, reliable Intel product, better than onboard with lower overhead, brackets for regular and low-profile cases. Cons: None so far, this is #2 I've ordered, as well as a couple of the Rosewill PCI-E 1x Gigabit NIC's... from Newegg.com
