I purchased this kit about 18 months ago. It worked flawlessly until one unit failed from overheating after about 6 months. from Amazon.com I have comcast cable modem and I am fortunate to get about 17 Mpbs when connected directly to the modem. I connected the PLA401 to my Xbox 360 which is one story below and there was little (if any) speed degradation. Very impressive speed. from Amazon.com I got the package this week and plugged it in at 3am. One unit I plugged to my router. The second unit I plugged in downstairs to my Popcorn Hour A100 (PCH-A100) media player. The PCH-A100 got an ip address and was online in almost no time. from Amazon.com Initially I tried Netgear Av Net powerline kit, but that was a waste of time and money. So I bought this Zyxel's PLA 401 Kit. from Amazon.com I've been using 2 PLA401s to extend by home network and cut down on the wifi traffic for about 6 weeks. For the first 4 weeks the units worked great, about 2 weeks ago one started intermittently failing. from Amazon.com For some reason, the wireless signal in my bedroom is never consistent. I've tried so many different wireless routers, finally I bit the bullet and purchased this kit after reading some reviews about the new powerline products. So I plug one unit to one of the outlets next to my router, connected to an Ethernet port of my router, and the other into an outlet in my bedroom, into a small 4 port switch, and now both my wife and I are able to just plug into the switch and get online. from Amazon.com I used this kit to extend Internet access to my living room. I use it to watch Netflix movies on a plasma TV using the the ROKU media device. from Amazon.com Works very well if neither is on a surge protector, which bothers me. The network cable it comes with is incredibly short (2.5'), but a normal cat5 cable seems to work fine if that's not long enough. Other Thoughts: Make sure you go to Zyxel's site and download the latest firmware and drivers. The newest version is a bit more friendly than the one on the CD. from Newegg.com Pros: Throughput seems pretty good, once you get it working that is. Cons: Had to RMA one of two that I purchased, as it wouldn't play well out of the box. I'm not sure these were working well until I changed to a private network ID, which is a bit of a PITA if you don't do it from the NBG318S router end, which only requires access from its web port. from Newegg.com Here's the WARNING. Because you can't run these via powerstrip, they are directly plugged into your wall and then your computer(s). I happen to have my network on a wireless router, so the "in" signal for the ZyXEL was coming from the router. Well, there was a powersurge yesterday sometime and because there was no power strip/surge protector to stop it - the serge went through the Cat5 cable from the ZyXEL and DESTROYED my $200 router. from Amazon.com
