as for any projector it is desrible a dark room, so with the light off for me its same image you get with a tv, but with the huge diference that you get a huge screen.
bottom line...if you are looking for a projector that will not break your budget that can rival any other on nearly 100% of tv and 90% of movies, look no further.
i use it on media center, wii, and dvd player.
i tried sending an hdmi signal from my dvd player/sound system, and the projector displays only a black screen.
the average user, or even the experienced projector consumer will not be disappointed if you're looking for an economical projector to watch tv and play games on.
why spend 4k on a 58 inch tv when ive got a 100 inch for 1k and it looks just the same.
setting it up was a doddle and soon realised that any image quality problems were associated with the dvd quality rather than the projector capabilty.
i have an xbox 360 with hd-dvd add on drive for games and hd-dvd movies and a panasonic dmp-bd55 for my blu ray movies being fed to my projector.
the hd dvd are so great with this projector.
cheaper than a hd tv other thoughts: didnt know to make it go to 348" you actually have to have it project very far away.
it's not necessary to have a costly upconversion dvd player as this projector does a better job at it.
i have it connected to an xobx 360, hd through cable and an upconverting dvd player.
dvd and hd directv are amazing, it's not great at standard def channels, but still looks ok.
dvd movies look amazing.
upscaled dvds look incredible and although lcd technology can't quite reach the black levels of dlp, it by no means detracts from my enjoyment of this projector.
i've had it hooked up to the satalite (standard definition), my desktop, my laptop, my wii, and dvd player all look smoking good on it...
we are using it for xbox 360 mainly, but dvd movies look great also.
it hooks up quickly to surround sys.,to my pc,game systems, dvd, and direct tv is much better on here than on an plasma or rear projection tv.
i would suggest the viewsonic projector to anyone who is looking for a great movie and video game experience, plus daily tv use though it is good to still have a traditional set for daytime viewing.
you can of course still see picels on a 123" screen when you walk up to it, but at couch-distance this thing is just ungodly awesome for watching dvds.bulbs are expensive, but i got a rebate offer
if it isn't mounted, it could act as a semi-portable tv in your home - we hook it up to our macbook pro's at night to watch dvd's and streaming tv from our slingbox.
initial highlights - good projector for the money if you have a good source (hd dvd/blu ray/upconverting dvd player).
we use this projector to watch tv and movies.
i bought this to replace both my computer monitor and my tv, which it has done flawlessly.
i have a number of dvd's ripped to an external harddrive.
the flexibility and overall final product this projector delivers at its listed price, might have you shaking your head in disbelief at the price of some of those "top of the line" big screen tvs.
we use it for everyday tv and movie watching.
i use it for showing dvds of movies for family and friends and it's perfect for that.
i have not used it for watching dvd's yet but for powerpoint presentations, with photographs it was excellent.
i have hooked up both a ps3 (hdmi) and dvd player (s-video) to it, and they work great.
dvd's look great and hd sources look even better.
i purchased this product a week ago,and i am very pleased with the way it performs.setting it up was quick and easy.my primary use for this projector is to watch dvd movies, and so far i am very
this projector was the best option for an afordable home theater experience, just had to buy a dvi to hdmi conversion cable for about $30.00 and you can connect your hd dvd player/ directv hd dvr/ or
i have one dvd player that drops the signal between the menu and the movie, so the projector starts searching for another signal.
if you can live with that, then this a great option to the $2000 models that are floating around out there for entertainment.i have the cable hooked to the projector by s-video and the dvd hooked to
other strengths that i can mention are: it includes different kind of connections so you can connect it to dvd players, tvs, computers, etc.
i wasn't expecting the projector to be as bright as it is, in fact at 160 lumens i figured i wouldn't even be able to use it much during the day but it is plenty bright enough to play the wii or
it's bright enough you can play videogames i've been using it for wii games since i can't use lcds or plasmas.
more than great don't even bother with buying a screen) with the lights off and the curtains closed this baby will fill a wall from tip to bottom and from side to side with full crisp tv clarity
we bought this projector for family movie night.not having a huge tv, this fit the bill just great.
i was thinking about buying 52 inch lcd tv soon to my living room but i've changed my mind, what for paying over 4 time as much money and have 52 inches heavy, non portable screen when i have 80
i have an upconvert dvd and direct tv hooked up to it with an hdmi cable and it looks beautiful.
"installation in a new-construction environment is pretty easy.my setup used a 110" widescreen firehawk g3 screen from stewart filmscreen, a sony bdp-s200 blu-ray single-disc player, a nintendo wii
i replaced my 57" rear projection tv with this projector, and a 135" 16x9 screen with 0.8 gain.
we received our new sony black pearl on feb 12, 2008 and we have had a wonderful time setting it up and watching hd tv and 1080p upconverted movies via our oppo 981-hd.
afterward, we played around with some blu-ray and hd-dvd at 1080p.
16:9 for tvs) i find this more of a hindrance than anything since if you run a 16:9 source and have black bars from a movie or something else, you get two different colored black bars (annoying).
i use it as my computer monitor(computer gamer), my tv, and watch movies on it.
don't let the 720 fool you, the picture is still almost twice the resolution of standard tv.
i have a 100 inch (diagonal) picture that beats my lcd tv's.
other thoughts: i was thinking of buying a larger lcd tv.
another downside was that i was hoping that it would have an hdmi input as the sony dvd had a hdmi output, so you are on the second step of picture quality!overall, a good experience.
i hooked a wii up to it and the big screen makes it perfect when having friends over.
i simply opened the box, followed step by step turn on/off instructions as illustrated on a single page, inserted a dvd and voila..it was good to go in 5 minutes.
i also like the slot loading dvd player, although that is something that can sometimes go wrong (whereas the pop open lid on the dv10 keeps it simple in that regard).
summary: the best part about dv11 is the built in dvd player and the adequate speakers which is very important that we can use the projector in more than one place.
combine it with a decent screen and surround sound for hours of blissful movie watching, whether via hd cable/satellite or via an upscaling dvd player, the colors are exquisite, the contrast sharp
summary: i upgraded to this from a 480p infocus unit, and the results were gratifying, especially with xbox 360 and dvds.
i have it hooked to a media center computer for tv and xbox 360 for gaming.
this is only an issue for use as a portable projector, as you will normally use your laptop's speakers (business) or hook your dvd player up to your stereo (home use).
which let me plug-in an upconverting dvd (which is the secret to getting near high definition quality with any movie!)...
i hooked it up to my daughter's portable dvd player and bought a pair of good speakers .
the reason for getting a projector is because i love watching movies and tv on a big screen (especially sports).
just because it says it's for meetings doesn't mean it won't work as your tv.
i use it to connect to directv, playstation, and dvd player.
i'm using a laptop to drive clips and power point, a dvd player for an occassional movie and it connects to handycam for instant playback.
my wife and i installed it on the ceiling, built an 80 inch projector screen using white black-out cloth, and use a switchbox to display everything from dvd's to tv.
the portability factor is nice, and the ability to watch things on usb drives or sd cards instead of hooking it up to the computer or tv, although we haven't done that yet.
next up will be connecting it to a dvd player.
i am in the middle of a basement remodel and needed a big screen tv for movies.
i use it for powerpoint presentations and dvd movies.
it's still a pretty sharp picture, easily on par with highend tv's.
for ~$530 (projector) and ~$100 (screen), or do what i did - make your own, you can create your own home theater and watch tv/movies large.
let's just start by saying that i've always wanted to replace the crummy tv with a nice mammoth projector screen, 'size does matter'!
also, it has 2 hdmi inputs so i use 1 for ps3 (which is the most amazing thing ever) and 1 for cable tv.the picture of this projector is amazig.
it is little noisy, but great.i played with samsung upconversion dvd and it projected a great image.
even the regular tv experience is changed.
i was willing to run gold-tipped hdmi cables, use an upconverting dvd player capable of 1080p resolution, and get a high-quality screen (white matte with 1.0 gain...i learned this from consumer
i have hd-dvd, blueray, xbox360, ps3, a mac and dbs hd sources fed to the projector through a sony str-da5300es receiver, which has six hdmi inputs, three component inputs and a faroudja scaler.
i've been using it to watch my online tv shows.its great to watch the on something bigger than my laptop screen.
my wife and i just hosted a movie night at a club we belong to using our viewsonic projector, phillips hd dvd player that upconverts to 1080!
i took a casual try at projecting a non-hd dvd with it, and the quality was ok, but not outstanding.
great for getting a big screen tv for small dollars.
i want to try it with a dvd for a home movie.
the only downfall is that it only came with a cable to connect to a pc, but not a cable to connect to a dvd player (s-video to rca) i had to order that separately since the stores (radio shack &
i bought an epson powerlite s3 three years ago and used it for dvds, cable and to play my wii.
currently have 6 tv's in home (4 hd), largest is phillips "42 in bedroom.
