lamps are cheap and viewsonic has good warranty service it is noisy sound wise and is prone to overtemp if your in a hot room .with only one hd input a reciever with component switching is must .
the main drawback of this projector is the available inputs.
i was a little bummed about the limited number of inputs in the back, but s-video, composite, and vga gets the job done.
in addition to this, it has vga input (computers and videogames), rca input (the yellow of the three red/white/yellow cords)and s-video input (high def recievers and dvd players).
switching between inputs has a bit of a lag, moreso than other projectors i've used, but that's about the only thing i can think of as to why i didn't give it 5 stars.
you should plan on getting a good receiver that will have plenty of inputs to enjoy your projector.
it has normal component inputs for hdmi and digital audio.
vga so far to my htpc, but the picture is great, and im shooting on a white wall w/minimal texture, no screen.easy onscreen menu to adjust settings, and remote is to use and switch between inputs.
didn't think i'd use the remote, but is convenient to change the inputs, aspect ratios (16:9 to 4:3 etc.) and the brightness / contrast.
i have tried out almost all the input ports and everything works great.
the only aggravation i have is that it seems as if i can't get the projector to 'lock' on a single input.
turn off the search feature on the automatic input detector if you use it onlywith a laptop.
the unit weighs less than five pounds, has good input selections, great brightness and clarity, and clear picture.
my specific requirement was a projector that could provide a dvi input from my laptop docking station which has both a dvi-d digital only signal output and a vga port.
oh, and another small gripe is that it doesn't have a regular (yellow) video input.
what's great about it:?amazing picture quality, easy to set up, quiet operation what's not so great:?only 1 hdmi input "i had reaserched other projectors and this one fit my criteria and was still
i'm amazed by how well it scales different inputs and makes them all look good.
the projector's handling of input sources is really nice too.
-all the inputs that you need (1 hdmi, 1 component, 1vga, 1svideo, 1,composite).
pros: a very good entry level hd pj that rival others at a higher price point.offers lumens which are closer to stated ratings vs others.good black levelscovers the spectrum for input devices.some
we did not use the dvi input for this show, but i tried it with my home computer (which has a dvi video out) and the projector image looked especially sharp.
would be nice to have a/v inputs, but this is a good projector with good features.
the reason i gave it a 4 star is because it doesn't have a rca inputs.
the projector has all of the inputs i need as well as the feature controls desirable for my range of uses.
it didn't have an hdmi input, so i had to use the vga to component adapter for hd content.
it has a large variety of inputs and automatically detects things when you plug them in and turn them on.
ok, before i got this thing i got the benq w100, so, when i got th w100 and i put it in place i said, wow, what a beautiful image, i really like the benq w100, well it was my firs projector, so i
extremely clear movie and computer input.
pros: bright, crisp and clear life-like picture, wonderful colors, i'm satisfied with the blacks, good separation between blacks & grays, very easy to setup, manual focus works like a charm, small
s-vid, composite, vga, rgb, inputs make it so it can take most anything.
there is no hdmi input, but you can't expect all that digital circuitry in a $400 projector.
the only drawback is that there is no hdmi input port.
cons: only composite video, s-video, and vga (dsub) inputs, but i knew that when i bought it.
there is a wide array of connectors to suit about any type of input.
pros: lightweight at 3lbs, high brightness, great picture, input compatibility cons: runs hot the bottom line: for the price (with a watchful eye and discounts), i truly must report that this is
cons: no dvi or component inputs, though this is easily remedied with adaptors
light weight, lamp hours are great, brightness is good under most lighting conditions, small and compact, hdmi input cons: weak speaker, gets extremely hot!!!!
i wish i could give it 4.5 stars because it lacks 2 hdmi inputs and the fan is audible in high power modes (but not distracting).
it has several picture presets built in, which is nice, and also the ability to store multiple custom settings for each input.
could use a second hdmi input.
it has two hdmi and two component inputs.
the multiple input options are handy too.
the extended black option setting caused the component 1 input to cast nasty green lines.
it has numerous connections allowing multiple inputs without spending time switching between them all.
great great great consno dvi input 4 of 4 people found this review helpful.
consno dvi or hdmi input needs to buy more!!!!!
consmaybe not enough inputs for some applications.
conswith todays drive for hdtv would be nice to have an hdmi input or two.
hung it upside down and used the rgb input and the s-video input.
this would work fine for presentations i guess (doesnt do that well with movies etc.) because the refresh rate is slower than the vga input, but its a cool feature.
it has all the inputs i needed it to have (2 types of monitor connections, s-video, regular video {yellow, red and white conectors}, usb, and even a monitor out function).
i almost returned this product because the menu screen never appeared to have a a/v input selection.
it would be perfect if it had a vga (rgb) input to connect directly to the computer as an external monitor.
the av input is great, which means it can connect to almost any game system, camcorder, digital camera, etc out there.
than our previous projector, but doesn't have that disturbing "optical flickr", it works perfectly with the xbox 360 - 2 hdmi inputs plus extras - we have 3 devices connected to it at all times.
-2 hdmi inputs is a plus.
while very similar to last years model, this one has an additional hdmi input and, more importantly, is about $700 cheaper.
compatibility: this pj accepts nearly all inputs (i.e.
absolutely awesome projector (if you don't expect it to be much use during daylighht..) superb picture, very quiet (but hot) - it is bulkier than our previous projector, but doesn't have that
no buttons on projector other than power, zoom and focus dials, so you have to use remote for keystone, menu, input selections (so don't lose it).
gave 5 stars this time because it just looks simply amazing at 70-80" playing 720p xb0x 360 and dvd's through vga input, and it takes everything we can throw at it without a hitch.
it has all basic inputs you need to connect any pc/laptop/cable.
only downside, is that there is no direct hd componet input.
has good selection of video input ports (svid, serial, video in) that allows convenient combinations (refer pt 2)
hdmi (of course) for input from external blu ray player of choice, or computer, or set-top box.
my next upgrade is a receiver with digital audio inputs so i can get back to true 5.1 audio.
when you switch from inputs you can't quickly skip them, you have to wait a few seconds (~5)until it recognizes that their nothing plug into it oh and the unit is a bit bulky.
but projection technology has advanced considerably in five years - higher contrast ratios, higher resolution, faster color wheels with more segments, brighter output, digital inputs, longer
