one other thought if you run it off a computer (comes with a vga cable) and set up in dual display mode (cloning your monitor to the projector), you will need to put the resolution on your monitor
it is hooked up to my cable box via a (3) component to vga connector.
for badcat, the composite is your video (rca) you can also use a hdmi to s-video modulator...dont ever use the vga port unless you are hooking a copmuter up to it, but yeah you can also get a
do you use an hdmi-to-dvi cable, and run the dvi end into a dvi-to-vga adapter to go into the projector?
i was a little bummed about the limited number of inputs in the back, but s-video, composite, and vga gets the job done.
small notes-- although it mentions use of a usb cord, be aware that is only for pc based computers, for mac users (like myself) you will still need the convertor for the vga cord.
the usb connection, when connected to my computer, displays a signal that rivals the vga connection, though it doesn't refresh the page as often thereby making motion images a bit jerky.
if you're on a mac you'll need to buy an adapter, a mini-div to vga for my mac, which cost $20.
besides its funtion as a home theater projector i also uses it for multimedia presentation because it has two features that we don't normally see on other projectors; it accepts sd cards directly
it looks fantastic on the projector through vga.
using this projector for a vga connection because there is a serious difference in picture.
i used vga, and i couldn't get either my macbook or my dell inspiron (windows xp) to output 1280x720, the native resolution of 720p.
vga cable.
hd cable looks equally as vibrant via component, however cant say i've tested the vga port as of yet.
i do have a mac, so you can't use the usb cord with it (why, i don't know), you have to use the vga cord and may need to get an adapter for it.
what i would point out here though is that it does not have an hdmi slot (i believe the older model does), so they've sent a vga component converter that works really really well, it just means that
this unit does have a usb connection for your computer, but i used the vga cable that came with the unit, and s-video for playing games/dvd's etc.
there are nice-looking units that will convert a vga signal to composite tv out that is powered by a usb port (google sw-4262) i will pick one up as soon as i have the extra cash and try it, too.
it would be perfect if it had a vga (rgb) input to connect directly to the computer as an external monitor.
however, the lack of a vga out is disappointing, so no computer.
it didn't have an hdmi input, so i had to use the vga to component adapter for hd content.
other thoughts: only inputs options are vga, composition, rgb, usb, and hdmi.
also i can't get the vga to work correctly.
has hdmi and component and vga...plenty of connections.
+ good quality of connectors (vga, composite, hdmi...)
it includes a remote control and a vga and usb cable to connect it to your computer.
that gives me great video and sound too.this projector looks great with xbox, dvds, and vga pc connection.
i use the xbox 360 vga cable to the projector, and actually have the monster cable version on the way, and i'm hoping it makes a difference.
my specific requirement was a projector that could provide a dvi input from my laptop docking station which has both a dvi-d digital only signal output and a vga port.
gave 5 stars this time because it just looks simply amazing at 70-80" playing 720p xb0x 360 and dvd's through vga input, and it takes everything we can throw at it without a hitch.
other thoughts: composite (rca) is only standard definition and not very good quality, svideo is better, vga is good (720p).
we fastened the projector up on the lighting bar, and strung a 50' vga cable up, over, and down to the controlling computer (an old g3 apple ibook).
i have set this up in my kitchen, connected to my xbox 360 thru vga connection.
s-vid, composite, vga, rgb, inputs make it so it can take most anything.
cons: only composite video, s-video, and vga (dsub) inputs, but i knew that when i bought it.
i have a mac mini that i use thru a dvi to hdmi converter and it works great, but you can also use a standard vga connector.
-it has a vga input for older low-res video cards.
supports component video (via component-to-vga adapter).
picture quality with a vga cable to the 360 is great, much better than with the standard video connector.
i only see 2 real drawbacks with this unit, it lacks a dvi or m-1 connector so all laptop connections are analog (vga).
pros: easy setup, great picture even on a vga cable!
pros: beautiful picture from almost every source i've put into it, xbox 360 is gorgeous (accepts 1080p input signal through vga cable), hd movies are spectacular (picture is sharp, detailed, and very
the projector has all sorts of video inputs (vga, s-video, composite), so i use this projector for everything.
you need to buy a vga to component and i use a splitter since there is only one vga(computer) input.
what would really sweeten the deal is a hdmi port for true hdtv projection...but i guess a hdmi port would hike up the price alot but the powerlite series just keeps getting better and you can't go
also buy one of the rca component to 15 pin adapters, media looks much better through the component video.(like many projectors, component video is fed in through a vga input, the adapters are around
in addition to this, it has vga input (computers and videogames), rca input (the yellow of the three red/white/yellow cords)and s-video input (high def recievers and dvd players).
i have an upscaling dvd player (with vga output--definitely a plus) and an xbox 360, and both produce great results with this projector in 720p and 1080i modes.
beautiful color quality; watched a movie (through vga, playing the dvd on my latop) and it was great!
