all of the dvds you own are 480 lines so if you just plan on watching your current movie collection this projector will excel at the task as it can handle more than your dvds can crank out.
i've only watched four movies on it so far, so i can't speak to the reliabilty issue.
i use it for video gaming, watching dvds and tv in my office.
started watching a movie on it, got about 15 minutes into it and everything shut down.
the cool thing is that they include a rgb to 15 pin connector so u can connect it to your dvd player for a really clear image.
hooking it up to a laptop to watch a dvd though, was incredible!

purchased new in january 09, i've been using this each weekend to watch movies with my family.
in fact, the detail may even be too revealing in that i can see the compression artifacts on my homemade dvds--i don't really see this on my tv set.
it supports a nice rez from a pc, and makes my dvds look hot.
i would recommend that anyone using it with a television get hdtv.

the only draw back i see is it's not the most quiet on the market, but not a problem when you are watching the movie with the speakers turned up.
i watched the lord of the rings trilogy on it 12hrs straight of movies day into night and the picture quality was awesome.
i am eventually going to by an up-converter dvd player and use the dvi connection in the next few months to get the best picture i can with this high quality low cost projector.

i did a lot of research before buying a projector and dvd player for our basement theater.
since it uses a scaler to achieve anything above 720p, it isn't a top resolution high-def projector but the image produced is so good you don't really care.
when you watch a widescreen movie, do not use 16:9 as it will further add 16:9 to the picture making everything look out of propotion.

i am using this projector for dvd and hidef tv viewing, xga is a must have.
i have no problem using it as a display for dvd or any good video source.
while not quite high def, tivo recorded shows are sharp and clear, and dvds projected in progressive mode are absolutely fantastic.
picture quality is great, got a vga to component cable and dvds look awesome.
extremely good with computer images like using it with powerpoint slides, and does a pretty well job with video media, like using it with a dvd player.

these are not necessary since it did come with computer hookup, but when you want dvd/vhs, tv, or sound (i'd still recomend external speakers for this) the cables are an extra buy.

the contrast is at its best around 85 and the brightness at around 65: daylight scenes look good even on a white wall, but the low contrast ratio of 350:1 is really bad for movies with excessive dark
the first thing i did was to buy a 95"screen(da-lite) next a dvd player(samsung) that doubles the lines to 1080 and then a hdtv tuner(lg).
