you can connect a dvd player directly to this unit but, i recommend using a computer because of the speed of this projector will show it true hd colors.
exceptional for home entertainment especially with hd-dvd and blu-ray.
summary: exceptional for home entertainment especially with hd-dvd and blu-ray.
i recently loaned it for a movie presentation at a small (120) seat theatre where the brightness and quality (projected to a 12' screen) was judged by all to be very good.
perfect for watching movies or gaming on as well, if that's your intent.
i have found it noticeable--but not really problematic--only during periods of near silence in movie or music soundtracks.
my previous home theater used a 56" crt rear projection hdtv, and i cannot see any ineriority in black levels using the hd7100 projector.
i bought this projector 15 days back and find it satisfactory.it displays 90% quality of what comes out from a dvd player or laptop.if need high resolution go for model with 1050* resolution.(need to
weaknesses: lacks component input - which is a bummer for someone that wants to hook it to cable tv box or dvd players etc., except you have a vga-to-component cable like mine.
we finally watched a movie on it the other night.
projector strengths: price is low for the quality weaknesses: a bit difficult to use if the room is not dimmed summary: i have this for 4 weeks and i will not watch movies on my old tv again.
it shoots a dvd picture on a screen i have set up about 16' from front and impresses everyone who comes over!
the color and contrast are satisfactory, at least for the movie i watched with it.
turn your living room into a movie theatre - you will be amazed at the quality of the image projected on the wall in dark room condition.

this is the most awesome thing we own, next to the dvd player we use for it!
i did a lot of research before buying a projector and dvd player for our basement theater.
since it uses a scaler to achieve anything above 720p, it isn't a top resolution high-def projector but the image produced is so good you don't really care.
when you watch a widescreen movie, do not use 16:9 as it will further add 16:9 to the picture making everything look out of propotion.
it is great to sit down and watch a movie in a personal...
every time i sit down and watch a wide screen dvd or hdtv program (for free over the air) on my hd72 i comment out loud how much i love it.
watching sports in hd and regular dvds is the reason i got it, but now even my wife goes down there to watch her sitcoms in hd.
i use it mainly for watching movies on dvd.
