First, it's not the absolute greatest DLP projector ever, particularly in the way it doesn't have the sharpness to totally realise its full HD potential. But second, the full HD DLP projectors that do better than the HD80 all cost way, way more. from Avreview.co.uk So if you want to know whether the HD80 performs exceptionally well for its money, the answer is an emphatic 'yes'. from Avreview.co.uk I bought the HD80 after doing extensive research. Still the great surprise was waiting for me... after replacing a not-so-old ViewSonic PJ556 (excellent product btw, but no HDMI), cabling the new HDMI wires, etc... it was time to turn the Optoma on and... from Amazon.com I've used this projector for one year with a Comcast HD-DVR cable box (outputs in 1080i and 720p), a Playstation 3 / Blu-Ray player, an Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver w 1080p upconversion. I wanted the best picture possible for under $3000 for a projector. I was willing to run gold-tipped HDMI cables, use an upconverting DVD player capable of 1080p resolution, and get a high-quality screen (white matte with 1.0 gain... I learned this from Consumer Reports), etc. from Amazon.com This is not a complaint on the HD80, but rather an error with Amazon. Both HDMI inputs produced poor video quality (incorrect colors on some sources, ragged vertical edges, loss of signal, etc.). I could take the same HDMI video sources, and use a HDMI to DVI adapter to send the video in the the projector (via the DVI input) and everything looked great. from Amazon.com I bought this projector to replace my Optoma HD70.
