also paired it with a close-out first gen toshiba hd xa1 hd-dvd player (got the projector for $875 (the projector place) and the player for $385 (ebay) -- both delivered for only $1,260).
it really shines watching hdtv movies (in cinema mode) in a darkened room or sporting events in a partially lit room.
dvds (from my stand-alone player) look great on this projector (sw episode 3 looks awesome!) and hdtv (through my computer's hdtv tuner card) looks absolutely incredible.
"the hd1000u should logically appeal to those seeking a brighter projector to watch movies with modest ambient light, or on really large screens, or who like sports and hdtv in brighter rooms."
summary: the best movie projector around 1000$ good video quality vivid color clear image 720p can support hdtv in current cases low noise and remoter is easy to control manual is easy to read
it's 3:4 chip is definately a big minus when it comes to viewing 16:9 dvd's.
i have so far tried powerpoints and played few movies and it’s been great even with a basic resolution of 800*600.
haven't tried connecting it to video source such as dvd or hdtv but that was not the main goal on this purchase.
watching a couple of dvds, i would say it's pretty good quailty.
now, i lay on the couch and watch movies every night with vt47.
