She originally wanted iPod, but we compared the features and decided that this one was a lot better deal. She loves the speaker, and she also loves you can set the alarm. We didn't think she needs to take pictures or video with a MP3 player, so the new iPod with a camera/video feature was not a big deal for us. That's a personal preference, I guess. from Amazon.com I have the earlier version of the Sony MP3 player, still enjoy using it very much. The S540 is easier to use, has better sound, and an improved volume level that is good for my use because I play these players thru amplified sources that have speakers. from Amazon.com I just got it about a week ago for my birthday. The only minuses are the ear buds (but really how many MP3's come with good ear buds) & the fact that it seemed to sync every time I plugged it in to charge-had to turn off the auto sync feature....
