all the selling points in a mp3 player:-superior audio quality: you can definitely hear the difference between the zune and an ipod when listening to high bit-rate tracks (ripped from cd, loss-less).

end player you would think it would have an equalizer (eq) but for some reason from my readings (after the fact, i would have never thought) microsoft decided to leave the eq out of the package.

Avid audiobook listeners demand a lot from their mp3 players. Audiobooks are large files, so you'll need an mp3 player with as much space as you can possibly afford. A minimum storage of 10GB is usually a good rule of thumb. This is one case where more is always better.
You should also look for an MP3 player that uses changeable batteries as well as a built-in battery. You might find yourself in the middle of a riveting chapter when your built-in battery dies. If you don't have changeable batteries, you'll have to recharge before you can continue your book. The suspense might kill you.
Make sure the mp3 player you purchase is compatible with the audiobook service you want to use -- if you want to download audiobooks from iTunes, for example, you'll need an iPod. Choose wisely, and you'll be rewarded with the ability to curl up with a good audiobook for hours at a time.
