stock fan /heatsink is good enough for oc'ing.i don't like to,it is definitely fast enough for what i use a computer for...photos and games...wow, ghost recon ,crysis, counter strike and prince of
i built this to be a gaming system, and i found the integrated hd audio is actually good enough that i'm not going to get a separate sound board for it.
it has taken in stride everything i've thrown at it including crysis at full settings.
i compared it to the 2 most popular boards in the gamers universe and ended with the dx58so because i trust intel architecture when running their own processors.
intel has really stepped up and delivered a stable, solid, x58 motherboard that has done nothing but perform to the highest standard.
it is possible for both video editing and gaming but not ideal for gaming.
other thoughts: i just wanted to clear up everything about this board:-it is a server mainboard built with gaming in mind-any 771 socket cpu will work and they can run as low as $300 each-the pci-e
remember this is not a gaming motherboard for those who want the best of everything.this was built for digital editing programs.which explains the 1.1 express slot and the full buffer memory.
we were playing crysis together with my system at high and his at very high.
the difference between a gaming board and a server board is there is no difference :) the skulltrail is like a bmw over a volvo.
used this board in my gaming rig build.
very stable board with hi def audio and three pci xpress lots.board ahs cross fire, so you can link two video cards for great gaming.
cmos jumper in bad spot.other thoughts: a great board for easy, stable overclocking.
very stable.
great board very stable.
i really only use my pc for gaming and generally wasting time, which it is thus far is perfect for.
not in use for gaming, so i've not really stressed it, but overall a good board.
stock speeds have proven to be quite stable and performance is decent for all my needs; encoding, graphics rendering, and some gamming.i'm running it at a modest 2.8ghz now and i'm happy with it.
plus, not being a gamer but just wanting something solid that i could oc if i wanted to, i thought it would be perfect.
i've been running it at 3.2 ghz with no issues, and it's very stable.
