I should have wrote the serial number down before sending it back to newegg. I can'f confirm if the board I got back is the original one I sent in for RAM or not, but it's doing the exact same thing. Any OS isntall I try hard locks within seconds, and DIMM 1A won't pick up anything.
Pros: Quality build. Cons: Failed to install Win 2008 Server OS.
Pros: Rock solid with 12GB RAM. Expandable to 24GB when the prices for 4GB sticks drop. Runs all 6 SATA ports with no troubles. Booting SATA CD/DVD off any port no problem.
Pros: this is a simple, no frills board that is almost perfect forserver applications.4 PCIe gen2 slots - they are all off the x58!real intel NICs! Cons: there's a cap near one of the CPU fan mounting holes whichmakes it impossible to use the fancy zalman coolers becauseof their weirdly massive mounting bracket!the CPU is closer to the first x16 slot than on desktop boardswhich further limits the choice of CPU coolers that'll fit.i ended up with a very basic cooler with a regular120mm PWM fan on the side - works great, costs less!i gave up on the stock intel cooler - the motherboard startedbeeping at me because the CPU (w3550) was getting toohot under load.
