An excellent board. I used to use ASUS boards exclusively, but I have recently really come to like the Intel boards. Performance is solid, the boards are feature-packed and they are simple to set up. The driver installation app included with the board is slick. The stickers included with the board are a nice touch. The embedded RAID controller is simple to set up and seems to perform surpisingly well, though the need for a floppy during setup is a bit inconvenient, especially since the board has no floppy controller. Note: if you're going to use RAID, have a USB floppy on hand. This is the 3rd Intel board I have used in the last year. Do not usually use my pc for gaming(have 360) but the graghics and speed with gforce 8600xxx is amazing, guys at TigerDirect Burlington went out of there way to help me. It's working perfectly, but took some doing. If you're installing XP, be sure your version is XP with SP2 or you'll be pulling your hair out. from Tigerdirect.com Summary: 1) My configuration: Core 2 Duo E8500 3.0GHz (FSB 1.333GHz), Corsair Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX G (4G-byte, 800MHz). Since I purchased ?assembly & test?, the board came properly pre-assembled with these components. Other than the BIOS version, everything was OK.2) Mechanically everything fit perfectly. The CPU & fan assembly is about 2 inches high. The memory (which includes a large aluminum heat sink is about 2 & 3/8 inch high. Everything runs cool (temperature) in MS-Windows idle condition. (Have not tested under heavy use) I added a SATA disk drive and an ATAPI CDROM.3) See the Intel website before upgrading the BIOS! In my case, the standby mode did not work properly until after I upgraded the BIOS. Between each MB change it is suggested to cold boot more than once to make sure all software & hardware is totally synchronized. For MS-Windows users, there is a very convenient Intel download allowing easy BIOS upgrades. It is called ?DPP3510J.86A..EB.EXE?. (My upgraded version number was 0407)4) This board is set-up by default to use SATA CDROM & disk drive. To use an older ATAPI CDROM on the parallel ATA connector, set the BIOS to ?legacy mode? and the CDROM will become visible as the third SATA interface (even though it is connected to the ATA parallel connector) Also the ATAPI drive operating mode jumper (at the back of the drive) needed changing from ?MA? to ?SL?. Some older ATAPI-CDROMs could be incompatible. (I don?t know) Probably a parallel ATA disk drive could also work. (I don?t know)5) Regarding +5VSB, the actual current draw may depend on the standby mode chosen by the operating system and possibly the memory installed as one of the standby modes pages to DRAM. Compare the standby operating mode in the Intel spec against the PS spec as some standby modes may have a compatible current draw. In my case, I tested MS-Windows in shutdown-standby mode. Shutdown and restart were within 5 seconds each. After an hour in standby, there was no sign of power supply overheating using a PS with a 2A, +5VSB spec. (I used the smoke test method) The Intel spec suggests 3A minimum. (I?ll cross my fingers)6) BIOS & memory speed; the MB apparently defaults to 667MHz memory speed. Using SDRAM with Serial Presence Detect (SPD) and selecting ?automatic? memory speed detection, the BIOS can automatically configure the DRAM interface. In my case, the SDRAMS configuration was read and the memory speed was automatically configured to 800MHz. Using matched DRAMS, Dual channel (Interleaved) mode can be achieved thereby further increasing performance. This feature worked well.7) The MS-Windows ?system? utility reports 2.99GHz CPU speed, 3.23GB of RAM and Physical address extension. (Keep in mind that the integrated display controller grabbed some system RAM) The BIOS reports 2GHz (?) CPU and 1.333GHz FSB.8) In my experience, every new computer is better and faster than the last and this system is no exception, I totally recommend it. Could not find a free MIPS program so no MIPS data. from Mwave.com I bought this MB not too long ago...I was not impressed by the size of the board, I thought I was cutting corners, cause the board is rather small as the manuals say… but when I install the complete system with the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor 2.6 MGZ CPU, I was hooked!!!
