I bought this hand mixer for a couple of different reasons that are pretty poor...one, I wanted a mixer that matched all my other red Kitchen Aid things. (I love the red) The other reason was that I'd had my old Black & Decker hand mixer for a long while and I wanted a new one. The power difference is amazing. The Kitchen Aid is a sissy in comparison to my old mixer. from Amazon.com I bought this mixer recently and on the second use when I was trying to make meringues and the locking mechanism or whatever is decided to kick in, now the speed button does not work not matter what I do. I agree with the other reviewers on the speeds as well....the power was weak. The differences in price should reflect features--NOT QUALITY. We should expect quality from a manufacturer like KitchenAid.
