i've found that it rips and burns dvds approximately 3 times faster than my deskptop (mac g5 dual 2.3ghz).
if you are intending to use this mac for heavy graphic design and professional video editing then it may not be for you.
- doesn't get very "hot." i've yet to think i need to put it on something when its on my lap, even despite watching dvds or doing other intensive work.
it is certainly fast enough to run streaming video from youtube, and [...] without choking.
it's bright, vivid and clear, backlit by leds that truly make it quick to light up, easy on the eyes, and a beautiful display for watching videos or slide shows.
if i traveled a lot and watched a lot of movies or was using cpu intensive programs it might be a problem, but car inverters and other travel adapters are cheap.
super drive - it's still nice to be able to watch and burn dvd disks.
i say 'ok' because it's not perfect (colours seem to darken a little), but then again, i'm really not going to be watching a movie from 10 feet away at a 45 degree angle on a 13.3 inch screen.
when i do some big applications on it and extreme photo editing or dvd creating, it bogs down.
it is a great machine for word processing, checking e-mail, watching dvds, and surfing the internet.
i use it to edit my photos, check and compose my email, and video conference with my family from various locations around the house or when i am in the field shooting pics.
it may not be the best choice for high end video (though definitely capable) and comes up short in gaming, but handles photoshop, page layout, web design, and everything else very well.
i've done a whole lot of video and music work and it's worked seamlessly.
- the built-in camera takes decent video and it works well with skype.
my old macbook would spin it's fans up at the drop of a hat: screensaver, webcam, flash videos (though flash on mac is pretty much poor regardless of your macbook model.
well, nvidia 9400m is not so good like the macbook pro's video, but it's good enough for me - i don't play games so often.
oh yes, there are lots of good videos, training materials etc to get you from pc to mac.
if you want to use your mac as a media center with a hd tv, don't expect to export hd movie files easily.
this way we could create dvds and send them to each other for our kids and myself.
- a bit tricky to port your itunes media from pc to mac.
my last apple laptop only had a 3.5 hr battery or less and i usually couldn't get a movie in on one charge.
battery would last any longer than 4 hours at the maximum but was pleasantly surprised to find that for surfing/email type and the occasional cnn/youtube flash videos getting 6+ hours was quite easy.
graphics and gaming performance is surprisingly good with the 2nd dedicated nvidia 8600 video card.

i have to keep pretty much all of my media (photos, music) on my other machine, but it doesn't really hinder me too much.
i compared the specs side by side to my pro and found it to be almost completely caught up, except for the video card and display screen size.
the addition of the nividia graphics cards adds a lot to photo, video and light gaming.
it's light weight allowed me to easily carry it from class to class, its included photo and video editing software gave me hours of productivity, and perhaps best of all, it was reliable!
