I've had a Mac in my house since 1987. I fell away from Apple and the Mac a little in 2002 because Apple laid me off. Even then, I still had a Mac Mini for e-mail and web browsing while using a PeeCee for everything else.
I did not eliminate my pc, I added the iMac to the household. The Mac does everything that the pc does, but, in many cases, does it easier and more intuitively.
I am so surprised the transition was so smooth from the windows world. I guess once you get used to a crappy world you are not sure you can leave when someone opens the door. Apple opened the door with the new windows capable software or hardware. Best of both worlds.
I recently decided I needed to replace my Dell 9100 which is over 3 years old now. I have been following Vista and decided it wasn't for me and I was looking to get the latest in OS's as well as hardware. I decided to give OSX and the iMac 2.8ghz Extreme a shot. I have had so much fun setting this computer up and learning about it.
This is really a great machine - I got the 4GB / 1TB version and it is really fast - in fact I was considering the Mac Pro - but decided on the iMac as it just looks so nice. Expansion is very limited of course but storage wise I think external drives is the solution as you just can't fit sufficient internal drives.
I have been a loyal Windows guy up until a few years ago when I made my first purchase of a iBook. That model was impressive, this model is unbelievable.
Overall, for day to day computer usage its great. ILife is a great program for pictures and movies. One of the intangibles is being able to walk in an Apple store and pay $99 for 1 years worth of training on any topic involving the IMac. They are succeeding where are computer companies failed in the brick and mortar sense and their support in the store has been excellent.
The iMac 2.8 GHz computer may represent the best value available today in a consumer oriented desktop. I've had mine since August and can attest that it runs Windows better than my PC.
Based on what I've read and personally experienced at the Apple Store, this is the most beautiful design for a personal computer to date. Although this is quite expensive relative to its capabilities, I would have given the iMac a 9 out of 10 if it weren't for Apple's presumption that everyone in the world is a closet exhibitionist.
It took me many years to make the switch to Mac but I am happy I did. Best investment I ever made. I love the iMac and so does everyone in my family. THANKS APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!
