makes two usb connection sounds every time you switch to windows xp.
when switching it causes multiple usb gongs because it is turning off one set of usb ports and enabling the others, so it can sound like big ben if your sound is turned up.
i can switch between sounds and video by a click of a button it works great no sound static no glare or fading.
the addition of a hard switch, sound delivery is superior, i always had to jiggle the iog, same cable no jiggling.
there are 2 connection sounds that you hear from the pc speakers when the switch is done (just normal windows sounds), so you know when control is passed from one pc to another.
this is a big deal if your bios loses its programming and you need a ps2 keyboard to get in and reconfigure it to use usb at the hardware level.only has 2 sound connectors.
i needed another one to run a linux box also and have sound capability it gets it all done for me.
this kvm works great for dvi video, usb keyboard and mouse, and sound for both pc and mac.
no problems with sound.
nice audio options - mostly a clean sound.
last thing, if you switch a lot, you'll quickly get tired of hearing window's usb plug/unplug sounds.
it doesn't constantly power the usb connection so when you switch computers it makes the usb unplugged and usb recognized sound in windows.
it may not have the bells and whistles for sound etc.
usbnow i realized that i should select the kvm with sound instead.
(i.e., has led lighted keys, special sound keys) and also a fancy razor deathadder mouse.
i'm a little disappointed that the unit only comes with 2 sound cables.
i love the surround sound capability.
i am also very pleased with the other keyboard shortcuts that allow the sound or usb ports to be locked to a specific computer.
cons: 7.1 audio was a big problem.i have a pair of zalman 5.1 surround head phones & a creative xfi fatality sound card that i tried on this.
pros: looking for a kvm switch to support everything this pretty much does it, dual monitor, surround sound, and usb hub for printers or whatever you want to be connected to the active port.
all that and sound too!
sound seems to route through at full strength.
better then the belkin's that i tried, no problems with the vga, keyboard, mouse, or sound hook up.
other thoughts: windows will make a sound each time you switch in and out of it.
the switch does not "spoof" the background machine's keyboard or mouse, so every change is greeted with the ubiquitous windows usb device activation/deactivation sound.
as previously stated by other users, when you switch between stations you hear the characteristc usb sound notification indicating that the usb device was disconnected.
the kvm disconnects and reconnects the usb devices on each switch, making an annoying clunk-clunk sound.
pros: great price ($50 off!), switches sound/mic as well as keyboard/mouse & monitor.
both are connected to a 22" samsung lcd using dvi, wireless mouse, wired keyboard, and 2.1 sound system.
cons: only supports 2.1 sound.
independent sound and usb are wonderful.
love the sound, just wish i could choose to keep the sound going on one while switched to another.
sound quality is excellent and works outstanding with my microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse !cons: none !other thoughts: the reason why i bought this was because i went to a store(can't say bb for
regarding the sound, the kvm produces noise to one of the computers sound (but not the other).
pros: - choice of either hotkeys, software or manual button to change between computers - great price for a 4-port kvm with usb and sound capabilities.
it's a plus that the switch supports 7.1 sound as well.
the other nice thing is that the switch includes all cables you'll need for hooking up sound, usb, dvi.
as yet i haven't tried the usb hub capabilities and not interested in the sound aspects.
other thoughts: i firmware upgraded before checking the sound but 5.1 is working fine for me after upgrade.
pros: the good:- good quality kvm switch box (metal)- sleek-looking- all cables included- video worked right out of the box cons: the bad:- only have 1-channel sound, not matter if i use the
it had a sparkling problem that sounds similar to what another reviewer is seeing with this setup.
pros: switches more than a mouse and keyboard...i have been able to switch other ham radio related usb devices for digital modes as well - basically an external sound-card for demodulating ham radio
