currently my setup looks like: 24" lg 1080p monitor with hdmi < ps3, dvd player, computer everything looks exactly as it would were i to plug it directly in.

if you have hd components that run at less than 1080p or a monitor that doesn't support 1080p then i highly recommend this switch for you.
