to convert my tapes to cd/mp3 i had to have some sort of usb or firewire input device.

i don't know if it's studio quality, but for transferring cassettes to mp3 (cleaning up noise with audacity) and getting fuller sound out of the music collection on my hard drive, it's perfect.
