i've gone thru YEEEEEARS of hassle and expense (since 1997) trying to get video into my PC... years of raging, gray hairs, etc... But now, this little guy gets it in there, in 1080, and using Windows 7 Media Center (or the included ugly-but-it-works AverMedia app) i have been enjoying free TV and free cable for months and months. (Free cable because i have cable internet, and using a spliter, i can get the "public" cable channels -- ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, CSPAN, and sometimes the second-tier stuff like HDTV, TNT, all those channels that show reruns of Law & Order, basically... from Amazon.com Much better device. Save your money and buy a different brand. I live in Tampa and my Samsung LCD TV with an attic mounted RCA ANT1550 antenna finds 39 digital stations - all the major local stations show 7/8 bar signals and the TV never gets signal hiccups. The AVerMedia tuner, connected to the same antenna, only gets usable signal on two stations that have antennas 4 miles away from me. All the rest (6-10 miles away) show a single (red) bar on the Vista Media Center Digital Tuner page and trying to watch them shows only a "No Signal" message. from Newegg.com Then I installed on a dual core that didn't have all the 'extra' video programs my main computer has. I use it with my HTPC and recieve Comcast clear QAM channels with Vista MCE using the beta drivers/QAMtool utility from Aver ftp site (Greenbutton.com). Don't really use the AverMedia software so there are no comments on the included software. The tuner generates very high quality HD (local channels) and digital channels (able to recieve all unencryted channels listed under the Silicondust website). from Amazon.com Pros: Portable, small "Carry-Bag" included that keeps all the parts together. Short USB "Dongle" included. Excellent Picture on my 1080 HD Laptop Display. from Newegg.com I bought this so I could use the QAM on my XP MCE computer it has MCE 2004 on it . It has a Pentium 4 3.06 hyperthread chip with a FX 5200 card with s video out and rg6 in and out . from Amazon.com Pros: It came with bundled software, but we use it with Windows Media Center, and it works perfectly. I would highly recommend this product to anyone. No tech knowledge was required - thread the cable TV wire on the USB dongle, and then plug it into an open USB port. Installation time was measured in seconds! from Newegg.com Radio worked fine. Cons: Tried to use on two different systems and the tv function did not function smoothly on either system (XPSP3 2gbram, dual core 4800+amd, and hplaptop 3gbram, 1.5ghz cpu). This has such potential and yet it is unusable for any tv related functions on these systems (even with the newest drivers from avermedia, jan09). Have not tried disabling the averquick function mentioned on another review. from Newegg.com Pros: Complete setup with all except a remote that I would not use anyway. Ran on both my desktop and to my surprise also on my Atom based MSI netbook.
