Bought this unit for my 2004 Ford Ranger and installed it today along with the Alpine power pack. This is my second Alpine head unit and I love this one even more then the cda-9847 i had before this. from Crutchfield.com it's GREAT! all the options are terrific! USB/AUX/IPOD/CD. i can have 3 different music sources hooked up at once and still add an AUX input... from Crutchfield.com I picked this deck just because it is simple. I've owned a lot of Clarions and a few Alpines here and there in between and this is just like all the others. It isn't the most expensive so don't expect it to act like it..... from Crutchfield.com The sound is so much better/clearer than the previous Sony Xplode head unit (HU) that someone installed previously. I especially like that the HU retracts the antenna when not using the radio; most people have to install a dedicated switch for controlling the antenna to avoid it being up when the HU is on but not playing the radio. I matched this with a set of 6x9 Alpine rear speakers, which also made a huge difference even when installed with the Sony unit. I soldered the adapters wires together and did the heat shrink too, which took the most time. from Crutchfield.com the main reason you should get this instead of any other HU is mainly if you are going to use burned cds or ipod/iphone. it takes a little getting used to but once you get the hang of it you can scroll through your entire ipod menu, and the search feature is nice. from Crutchfield.com Purchased this and the 400BT and was very pleasantly surprised. Installed in a 2009 Jetta and although had to purchase multiple PAC items to install with factory steering wheel controls everything was a snap. Installed a couple Alpine HU's in the past and still impressed. Great product and sounds great. from Crutchfield.com hu rate/review specific pros: nice sound output even from 192kbp quality mp3 on stock speakers w/ blown rear speakers, good button functions, light color schemes matches factory interior dash lighting, easy install with minimal fabrication about 30min (expert) ~ 90min (newbie), satisfactory seek time on ipod (nano tested, have not tested on larger capacity ipods) cons: faceplate seems a little on the cheap construction-wise compared to earlier alpine hu ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- accessories needed for install rate/review pros: free ipod/usb cable and works great, motorola euro antenna works well (need to connect 12v), harness works well, removal tool makes install simple cons: dash pocket kit had broken parts (suggestion: inspect contents from any defects before shipping out to customers) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- notes: this was my 5th diy install using an alpine hu; 1st time buying complete install kit at crutchfield. search online for real diy instructions that gives you a more detailed install if this will be a diy project. from Crutchfield.com Also I can't seem to find out how to set the FM stations that I want to listen to. It'll only let me use the preset option. However, the iPod adaptor and CD player has made the radio on this stereo pretty obsolete. from Amazon.com My old Alpine stereo was still going strong, but this one had so many cool new features that I had to buy it. And I am very, very glad that I did. from Amazon.com the itrip thing was nice and cheap, but it seems like whenever i found an empty radio frequency, it seemed like a new radio station would show up and take up that frequency and the sound quality was from Amazon.com
