I have never made ice cream before and decided to get an ice cream maker. I purchased this one by Rival and I also purchased the Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream & Desert Book. I came home and made the French Vanilla recipe on page 35. from Target.com I finally wore out out old Rival ice cream maker after 30 years and just bought this new Rival on Amazon. Tonight I made "Frozen Passion" ice cream for our family for my husband's 77th Birthday party. from Amazon.com I purchased this unit hoping, in the short term, to use it until my higher quality maker arrived from Europe,thus I expected to use it for one season at most. This unit failed even in those short term expectations of it's use. The motor on this Rival maker shuts down on it's own valition prior to the ice cream becoming 'set' meaning hard enough to pack and mature and thus harden in the freezer. Avoid this item as it does not make actual ice cream but only a bad imitatiuon of a soft freeze dairy product. from Amazon.com if you follow directions correctly you can make ice cream in as little as 20 minutes. from Target.com i believe they should hold up nicely in home use. from Amazon.com this was a speedy transaction. from Amazon.com i bought this machine remembering the homemade ice cream mom used to make. from Target.com the worst part is that i wasted a whole bucket of fresh strawberries that my 7 year old daughter had picked ona field trip. from Target.com had to constantly shake and break up ice mixture, took all the fun out of doing this with my kids! from Target.com freezes ice cream to soft serve point nicely cons: noisy the bottom line: its noisy and somewhat cheep, but works just fine. from Shopping.com
