Got the V4500 from Target two days back despite some of the negative reviews. The humidity on this machine is one of the best I have seen, we have a 250 sq ft bedroom and the room temperature dropped to 67F at full blast. from Amazon.com After 5 days it stopped working, but I somehow managed to get it going again. It lights up, and you can hear a slight click when you move the humidity % dial, but it never cuts on. Now again it's doing the same thing and Vicks has 0 support information for the product. P&G doesn't even recognize the product either. from Amazon.com We regretfully tossed out the boxes so now we can't return them. Great. I did see that the Vicks UV 99.999% Germ Free Humidifier was well reviewed so we might get that one. It's more expensive but I think worth it. from Amazon.com It also developed the pink discoloration all over the water areas and black spotty mold around the motor. It also has some parts that are impossible to clean (even with a q-tip). The filterless part which was supposed to be a benefit - isn't because you still need to buy $10 mineral balls that you put in the water - but I'm not convinced they did anything. The mist that came out was at very little volume (I know cool mist humidifiers push out less mist - but still even on high not much came out). from Amazon.com OK, first to clear up a common misconception. I'm constantly seeing people saying, "No mist.", "Horrible mist.", and "Weak mist." Well, cool mist vaporizers don't put out a visible mist. That's it. from Amazon.com I think this is the best humidifier, both in price and funtion. Its pretty quite, easy to fill, not even hard to clean. It does not have a warm humidifying feature, but it does have a neat vicks vapor pad compartment built into the top (great feature). We bought 1 for my oldest daughter last year (end 2006) as she had croup and it worked just fine. A few months ago my youngest daughter had also a cold and cough at the same time as my oldest so we went back to buy a second one. from Amazon.com I went to do the weekly maintenance a few nights ago, and THROUGHOUT the motor housing is a pink film (we get this in the shower too) as well as mold spores. You can't clean the motor housing, so it's ruined. I called Vick's and they will send us a new one when I send this one back. Not sure if I will. from Amazon.com I bought this humidifier at CVS in desperation--the baby was sick and I needed a humidifier that night. I liked the filter-free feature on this model. I have another Kaz/Vicks humidifier (v3100) that uses filters, and at $11 a pop and several filter changes per season that got expensive. So I read the manual and set it up, I thought in accordance with the manual's instructions. from Amazon.com
