I ran to the store at 10:30pm and was pleased to see this item on the shelf. It was from Hunter, a brand that I know and love, I figured I was in business. This was by far the most expensive humidifier on the shelf, but I didn't mind. from Amazon.com I've been using this product for 3 months straight now. It's a basic humidifyer in that it puts moisture in the atmosphere period. No humidistat or fancy gadgetry but the blue light is pretty cool plus its very helpful to see the water level in the tank. One came with rust on the inside and put out a bad odor, and the other had a motor that was so loud & whiny (even on low) that I couldn't put it in my toddler's bedroom as planned. Short of installing a dedicated humidifier unit onto a central HVAC duct, these are the cleanest, most energy efficient humidifiers available. Hunter's Permawick with water pump design is very effective and eliminates the need to buy expensive paper filters two or possibly even three times each winter. The humidifier doesn't require the weekly or even daily maintenance of paper wick filters IF you follow some simple guidelines. from Amazon.com It works well when sleeping because it is like white noise. Low and medium are pretty quiet and I am able to keep it on medium in my living room even when I'm watching TV or reading.
