I thought it might be my connections. I should have read these reviews earlier because I see others are having the same problems with the AVR-488. The unit kept shutting off recently and Denon's repair center replaced the power supply. Now it pops like crazy. from Circuitcity.com The speakers are great, and the Denon is a good receiver, but not at all easy to set up. I am fortunate to have a friend that is experienced in set-up, and with his assistance we were able to get the system up and running in a few hours. from Circuitcity.com TAKE OWNERSHIP OF YOUR PRODUCT!!! If you choose to install a full surround sound system yourself, then be ready for some learning curves. It just frustrates me when I read reviews based upon the manual rather than the performance and quality of the product. Know my husband does'nt know if it's the birds outside or in the movie. Plus they were able to use my wiring from my monster system and said it was much better wire than what comes with the Denon from Circuitcity.com I purchased this system at Christmas time along with a 56'' HD TV. Great sound for the money, once the thing was finally hooked up. (3 trips back to CC to look at the convoluted way they had to hook it up, contrary to the installation manual) The HDMIinputs and fiber optic leads do you no good with this unit. If you are looking for amzing sound quality for music and home theater applications and don't want to spend more than 900 bucks, this system has my strongest endorsement. The lower rated 488 Denon system has the same receiver, but the speakers are inferior, stay away from it !!!!!The Circuit City staff was very helpful in refunding a portion of the cost as the day after purchase, this unit went on sale to the 850.00 price listed. Note, My prior system was a Bose speaker system with an 800$ Pioneer receiver they are now in my Mancave from Circuitcity.com Wonderful sound system. Sounds great and more powerful than expected. The one problem is that the HDMI inputs do not supply sound to the Denon.
