Did a lot of research and finally ended up buying this to complement my Panasonic 42' 1080p plasma t.v. 770u.
There's no HDMI input, probably typical for a HTIB. So I've routed this unit's output HDMI, my XBOX360 HDMI, andmy Dish Network HDMI into a HDMI switch - outputting to the TV. The drawback of this is that I have to loop audio back from my TV to the Panasonic with RCA cables for the xbox and dish network to be heard thru the speakers... Not a very good or quality wayto go, again this may be typical for a HTIB this is the only one I've ever had.
However, the HDMI works great afterfew tweaks. I popped in a DVD and checked the HDMI signal on my T. V (Plasma Panasonic 42' 1080p), it just displayed 480i , so i had to get to the picture menu (using Functions button) on the Home theater remote (manual doesn't specify this) and change thepicture to 1080p upconvert). Another downside is that the left and right speakers volume cannot be increased from 0db to 6db..
During my recent move, the surround speakers for my Kenwood 300 Watt 5.1 channel surround system (purchased in 2001 for ~$300 new) were misplaced. After searching through the remaining boxes for hours on end I finally resolved to purchase a new surround system (since buying speakers separately is nearly the same cost as purchasing an entire system). After reading generally good reviews about the the Panasonic SC-PT750, I brought one home. Although excited at first, the excitement quickly faded to disappointment shortly after I began unpacking.
Got the refurbished PT-750, was worried about the refurbished part but not one problem. Sound fills a fairly large room, couldn't be happier for the price.
The systems ultimate downfall for me, couldn't hook up TV and Xbox with component, had to choose. My TV (Hitachi P50701) only did digital out, and the system couldn't take a digital out or optical signal.3. Limited audio adjustment ('Movie', 'music' or 'off 'surround modes)Decent sound, nice picture on the upconvert, but overall felt cheap (plastic used, speakers/remote not nearly as nice as past Panasonic Home Theater model I owned). The wireless rear setup was OK, but the box that it needed to receive the signal was way too bulky, and needed to be out in the open in order to get a clean signal.
The PT-750 works pretty well, and most especially if purchased at the right price (think web-available mfr. refurb).
Upconversion -- 5/10 less than OK. I have played same standard DVD on different upconverters. Panasonic stands somewhere in between. Style/looks: 6.5/10
I thought Panasonic was a reputable brand. I regrettably sold my previous DVD Home Theatre System which was also Panasonic for the SC-PT750.
For the money it sounds as good as or better than other major brands (Sony, Samsung, etc.) at about the same price level. We had been listening through the TV speakers, and it is a great improvement over that. We use it with the Panasonic 42" HD plasma TV (TH-42PX60U), and a digital cable TV DVR, and connected both with HDMI cables (which are not cheap). Pros include the wireless rear speakers, iPod dock, XM satellite radio port, HDMI cable port, easy setup, relatively small size, and excellent value (about $375).
