I bought this system to upgrade from an old competitor's system. Also, did it because Santa gave me a Blu-Ray. from Crutchfield.com The sub puts out more than enough base for my listening enjoyment. I'm sure a $300.00 sub would have a crisper sound than the supplied sub, but for me, it does the job well. I really believe you will like this home theater speaker system. I used pre-outs for 'LFE' and works fine. Other thoughts: I have read in other sources that the polk speaker stands require using the mounting bracket when mounting to the stand. The last thing I settled on was my speaker system. I got them before Christmas when they were cheaper just under $400.00 I looked at a bunch of 5.1 systems to add to the two speakers i had to make it a 7.1 cause i didn't know how different it would be and it is nice!! I have them connected to an Onkyo TX-SR806 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) (see my review for this product as well), although I am not using the 7.1 capability of that system (none of my current components support 7.1 anyway). from Amazon.com I have looked up the Speakers.
