I tried 3 other space heaters (all 1500 watt) before I purchsed this unit. I even called Pelonis for their recommendation. from Amazon.com Very disappointed! The control knob for powering on/off/fan/heat broke after only a 7 weeks of use. Poor Pelonis customer service that do not respond to emails. Shipped the item back to Pelonis (about $10 USPS), and a replacement was shipped back, very poorly packaged--actually no packaging, just the flimsy cardboard box the heater comes in. from Amazon.com So I don't forget to turn it on I leave the heater power on and the thermostat set to turn the heater on when the room gets chilly. from Amazon.com It has a cut-off switch, if it's accidentally turned over, and it has a variable heat knob with a thermostat. from Amazon.com Two things that I was looking for in a heater were a tip-over switch and a thermostat...and this heater has both of those things. from Amazon.com Less than a year old, using it to heat my basement office, just sparked green and caught fire inside. from Amazon.com So I looked for another Pelonis disc furnace as I wanted to still use my original in the basement, and the newer models seem to have additional 'safety' features. from Amazon.com Bought it in 2004. Yesterday smoke rose from it and it had an electrical burning smell. from Amazon.com Everything is ok about this heater. It doesn't heat up at the wire like my Holmes heater does. from Amazon.com I bought several of these recently, having had one for 8 years that we love and has worked perfectly. Unfortunately they have changed the manufacturing to apparently use cheaper components. Both heaters I got had or quickly developed problems. Customer service was very poor and I had to repeatedly call and email to get replacements sent - one of which did not work right out of the box. from Amazon.com
