I got this yesterday as an Amazon Lightning Deal purchase. Thinking the price was a steal considering the Altec Lansing brand and a large number of positive reviews here, I was quite disappointed with its low frequency response (little to no bass). I played Jennifer Lopez's Waiting For Tonight (this song has lots of bass) on my iPod Touch and connected Altec Lansing UHP336 Earphone to it. from Amazon.com When I first saw the price of these headphones on Amazon I did a double-take. Either they were priced wrong or the $100-$170 pricing for identical headphones elsewhere on the internet were some kind of bait and switch. Well after some research it appeared that these "Ultimate Ears" Altec Lansings were the real deal. Now after a week of use I have to say I absolutely love these headphones. from Amazon.com A great buy on headphones that should sell for way more. I realize that Altec Lansing bought Ultimate Ears (UE) recently but these phones are way better than the UE's I used to own. The incredible sound is worth the discomfort, but I have to switch off between this set of earbuds and another to avoid irritation. * You cannot buy replacement eartips from Altec Lansing. You have to buy third-party eartips. from Amazon.com So I got these things and tried burning them in (playing music for a few hours at a relatively high volume), however the sound from the Altec Lansing UHP336s is poor. Wack job Altec on the lame stickers. from Amazon.com I used the Sennheiser CX400 silicon sleeves and it fitted pretty comfortably and sealed up nicely as well. For the price, it's an excellent pair of earphone for the vocal type of music... or in my case, a second pair to compliment the bass-ier Sennheiser CX400 (High and Mid are not as clean as the Altec Lansing, but the Low is very warm and deep). The same song can feels like two different songs when you switch between Altec Lansing and the Sennheiser. from Amazon.com These are unsuitable compared to the Etymotic er6i. When PROPERLY placed deep (properly not painfully) the little Etys do NOT NOT come out (ever!) and I forget they are there (this is necessary to not worry about slippage). These Altecs cannot be used for many of my purposes (cannot get under helmet) but when fitted with 'Comply Foam Tips' the comfort and 'stay in the ear' factor makes them very VERY nice units for the price (I have UE 5 pro and 10 pro which I have done this with- my favorites for home use). As I have 15 mp3 type things they are great to have around for occasional non motorcycle use. from Amazon.com
