I must comment on their durability. If you like taking your headphones with you to work, the library or to the backcountry you are going to have to treat them with respect. My pair of HD 280's had the top pad part fall off and cracked panel on the upper bridge part of the headphone exposing a wire. I guess I'm partly to blame for not taking better care of the phones but there has got to be some phones out there than can travel without falling apart. from Amazon.com The range of sound is good, but the highs have a lot more punch. Bass is present, but they don't have the amped-up bass sound that a lot of people seek out for listening to pop music. I don't have any problem driving these with portable players. If you want something that accurately details music, period, these are the ones to get. The only problem is that there's some heat caused by the pressure of the headphones. I have had ZERO problems with the headband cracking (maybe they changed the materials int he newer models).
