I have been in a working band for years and have suffered an abnormal amount of hearing loss. I have used Shure E5’s now for 2-1/2 years and have not experienced any additional loss of hearing. Every single time I wear them, I am more amazed at how great they sound. from Earphonesolutions.com They are worth the price. But here are the problems. Once the cable gives out one must send the whole phone system to Shure to fix the cable. Wow! from Cnet.com it truly is like being in the studio with the artist while they were making the recording, sort of like comparing HDTV to non HD...but ! you must learn to put them on correctly which is more than a little hassle its a lot of hassle so much so that I find myself often using cheap inferior headphones and buds. These great sounding Shure E5c sit in my drawer way too much for what they cost me( btw, I found them new for a little over $300 not as much as they are asking for here ). In the past I owned a good pair of Sony noise canceling, then I went on to Bose noise canceling, then last year I purchased these Shures. The noise canceling phones go over the ear, which means they are larger and are taking up a lot of your valuable carry-on space. from Amazon.com E5C vs. E3C from Amazon.com These must fit into the ear canal to get a snug fit and whoa the bass comes alive. I Don't like the stiff cord that is supposed to wrap around the outside of your ear. They are overpriced and at this time you should consider the shure e500 pth( smaller and more flexible) from Amazon.com Well, I gulped and paid the price for these after my Shure E2s died.
