The noise-cancelling siwtch died after about 20 uses (and I treat my electronics with great care). This seemed to ruin the functionality of the entire headphone system. from Amazon.com Being a full time student during lengthy --and abominably noisy--- renovations is a pure nightmare! Forget about using earplugs. So, after 3 weeks of constant noise from 7:30am to 5:00pm, I had no choice but to buy a noise cancelling headphone. After much research (and weighing the pros and cons); I settled my choice on the Panasonic RP-HC500 and I am absolutely THRILLED that I did. from Amazon.com I've owned five different active noise canceling headsets over time, and these are the best. Most recently, I have used the Bose QC2, which were painful in two ways: (1) they squished my ears, which became increasingly painful during long plane trips; and (2) the active sound waves that they generate caused my ear drums to hurt, again over long periods. from Amazon.com I am delighted with these headphones. My impression is that Panasonic, though not a glamour brand, turns out a reliable, well-thought out product. Bose limited the back ground hiss, the kind like a sea shell makes. Panasonic is better, 90% noise gone but voice, you still have to have someone talking loud right at you, to understand. Consumer Reports recommend a ear bud model, real cheap! from Amazon.com The headphones died at 100 days and the minimum repair fee is $50 plus you have to ship them. They were used no more than 4 trips and the battery got stuck inside. Panasonic farms out the customer service calls to 'drones' and there is not much more to say. I was sitting toward the front of the plane, against the window and forward from the engine, and all I could hear was a low frequency rumble, and that's without any music.
