I was looking at the Dr. Dre Beats and no doubt I wanted to get them really bad. The price tag, however, was the thing that made me try the Sony extra bass ones. Honestly they sounded like crap in the store but they had decent quality and were very comfortable. from Amazon.com The result is a muddy, unnatural-sounding mess. And whereas better headphones distribute weight across the top of the head via a padded band, these headphones squeeze the sides of your head pretty hard and aren't comfortable by any measure. Spend your money on the excellent Sony MDR-V600, instead. I am a hobbyist with a home studio, and I am familiar with a wide range of headphones including more expensive Sony headphones, AKG K99s, and Audio Technica ATHm20s. I went to my local Fry's and they had a box that had been opened so i tried it out with my ipod. The bass is AMAZINGLY loud, i have owned quite a few headphones in my day, just to name the most recent ones (Sennheiser HD-212, Sony MDR-V6) the bass on those doesnt even come close to what these are capable of.
