The major reason I purchased this video card was to upgrade the speed and quality of video using flight simulation programs such as FSX and X-plane. My average frame rate, which averaged about 18 on a mac pro, increased to about 32 and often maintains 34 (maximum). from Amazon.com The second the Mac wakes up, the fan starts running, even if it's a cool 60 degrees. I've read that others have had this problem as well. I could probably call customer service, mail it back, wait several weeks for a replacement or repair, etc - but my old card (ATI XT1900) overheated (as that card is VERY prone to do), which means I would have to go without my main production system (video prod. and game development) for the duration of the replacement - with no guarantee that the replacement wouldn't have the same problem. from Amazon.com The card comes with power supply cords to cover nearly every PC configuration you'd need (3 different cords at the bottom of the box and the diagram shows you using the Hard Drive power supply chord). Do not follow that. The Mac Pro (original) motherboard has 2 six pin power connectors waiting to support video cards - be sure and use the small 6 pin connector (Mac Pro motherboard) to the large 6 pin video card connector. The card emits a small amount of noise (like a very quiet CD spun up - much quieter than the Mac Pro's actual CD spun up), but you will notice it, if you had the original nVidia card in there - since it doesn't have a fan at all. from Amazon.com I had an XT1900XTX in my machine previously. The installation took a couple of days because when I got the card, the package contained a brief note saying I had to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard, and, because of what I had read about doing that, I had to get hardware and software to back-up my system first. The YT videos I'd seen, and the information I read on various sites did not mention this. So, I bought more hardware and software to do the back-up, did that, twice, because the first setup didn't work as it should have, then I removed my 1900XTX, and installed this card. from Amazon.com I got this ATI card about a week ago and I am very happy with it.
