why does garmin implements this basic gps functionality in their basic hiking units but cripple their auto units?

my beach walking group reported similar tales of woe with their garmins this morning, albeit with pc's.

what in the world did the ole wagon trail people do????

it was often slow locating satellites but sometimes it wouldn't find them at all - and this was outdoors without any visible obstructions.

in pedestrian mode, you walk & navigate with 260w, it doesn't do anything except the map shows where you are & very jerky, not stable at all.

i use this for trail riding and i have found that it is easy to use and is easy to understand and read.

if you just want a driving gps, get a tomtom, for trails and the road this is the ticket!

i ordered the unit with topo maps because i am usually in the woods.

sort of like an online wiki trail guide.

i like how portable it is and how you can switch from vehicle to walking.

it is small enough for hand-held use when walking in the city yet screen size is less than small.very easy to use.

i use this primarly for my car so i am not walking around with it using up its battery life.i highly reccomend buying the numaps for life, it is a bit pricey but you will have updated maps for life.

the nuvi 255w appealed due the size of the unit and one's ability to remove it from the car and carry it around as a hand held if walking city streets.
