When I received the TomTom GPS, I put in a route that I had traveled over a 100 times. It routed me a good 20 miles out of my way. from Amazon.com I bought the TOM TOM xl 340-S for a birthday present for my husband. We travel to Mexico each year by car and the Mexican feature was the deciding factor in this model. from Amazon.com After reading the reviews I was super nervous to have my hubby get this for my birthday gift. However, I really liked all the features, so we went ahead and ordered it. He likes his tomtom and has been using it for a year with no problems so I felt we could trust the brand. Anyway, here are my thoughts: from Amazon.com this unit works right out of the box. If you really want to update the maps, my suggestion is first link to your computer, and at Tom Tom Home you can visually see everything that's on the unit. There are a lot of voices that you can delete off the XL340 some of which are very large, and depending on your language preference, don't need. I own/have owned so many different units from several manufacturers that it's easy to forget that not everyone wants or needs the same thing in a GPS. from Amazon.com Had this for a week and it stopped working. Contacted customer service at TomTom and they provided a couple ways to try to fix the problem. When all failed, they said send it back for a replacement. from Amazon.com The Tom-Tom is a mediocre GPS unit with some great features as detailed below, but some significant issues that make it difficult for me to recommend versus other GPS units, such as Magellan and Garmin in a similar price range. I purchased the TOMTOM XL 340S over a week ago (for $159.99) as a replacement and have been putting this product through it's paces.
