My voice recognition worked on day one, I updated the map and on day two the voice recognition feature stopped functioning. I pulled out and re-installed the battery which hard reset the GPS (normally the device only goes into stand-by). After this hard reset, the 855 began recognizing speech again with no problem since. from Amazon.com I have had the Garmin 855 for @ 1 month. It is very portable and easy to use. from Amazon.com I opted to upgrade to the 855 from a 250W which needed map upgradeing. The new features of the 855 include voice to text commands, the FM transmitter, and lane assist. from Amazon.com A deciding factor was the fact my Quest has an internal battery and if that went bad, it had to be sent to a service facility for replacement. That cost was unknown to me but with both battery and map cost staring me in the face, a new featured GPS made sense to me. The 855 fits me best as I don't need Blue Tooth and I can always upgrade to MSN Traffic. The voice interaction is really fun but it's far from perfect. from Amazon.com This might seem obvious, but I was concerned when it wasn't specified in the manual that the two modes weren't mutually exclusive. And I recommend you get your music going before you start moving (keep your eyes on the road)!
