My Garmin nuvi was accidently destroyed and a friend recommended I try the TomTom... I ordered the XL 330 from Amazon... from Amazon.com I have multiple TomTom GPS units. I was VERY disappointed in this one. from Amazon.com I first bought Garmin, but its voice navigation was terrible and it lacked in features (such as able to select voice, select type of route, etc.) I am very happy with TomTom -- it is a much better device compared to Garmin. Because TomTom has many more options and features, it is a little more complicated to use. from Amazon.com Bought it as second for my wife. Mine is Magellan. After Magellan Tomtom routing just sucks! I was reluctant to get a GPS unit because of past experience using one on my sailboat for navigation. However, i noticed delay in acquiring satelite signals when you route the plan, taking 1-2 minutes to start the navigation, especially, when my travel in Chicago last week. Another note which you may interested is that the street name is spelled only by one computer voice among 4 different voice styles. Overall I'm satisfied with the product. from Amazon.com I found that mounting right at the driver side pillar was the best place; plenty of cord to do this but it lays across the dash. I love the dots on the selected route and hot the text to speech gets you to the correct turn. Many times on the Garmin when the streets were close together, I turned to quickly; I haven't done that with the TomTom. I read up on this model, and the reviews I real all said it spoke the street names. from Amazon.com We bought this just over a month ago, and I'm extremely frustrated and disapointed. This GPS is unreliable, and possibly even dangerous. It frequently gives directions to drive up one way streets the wrong way, or onto "no entry" streets. I tried all the free map updates we could find on the Tomtom website, and then called Tomtom's customer support when that didn't fix the problem. from Amazon.com
