Before putting it in the cooler, I wanted to do the salt test to see how accurate it was. After 14 hours it showed a reading of 70% humidity where an accurate hygrometer should read 75%. I contacted Honeywell and they said, "The humidity accuracy of our instruments is +/- 5%-7%, so your unit performs within stated specifications." I only wish they would have that listed on the specs because I would not have purchased it. Other than the less than ideal accuracy, it is a very nice device. from Amazon.com Humidity is really kind of an odd thing to measure. As someone mentioned relative humidity is best measured with a sling hygrometer, and even then I'd guess making the measurement can be bungled. So I did a little research and found the most likely to work well is the mechanical type (I believe a got a Conan(?)) that I knew I could trust, and also picked up this Honeywell kit because I couldn't resist the price. It's accurate, as it always seems to be in tune with the thermostat in the house. The wireless sensor feature is really great. And main unit measures almost 35% less humidity than my old meter which is almost impossible as it is definitely not 5% humidity inside my house. I put Honeywell devices outside and they even can't measure the humidity ("--" displayed). Online weather station shows that humidity in my area should be about 40%, not "--"! from Amazon.com I didn't have a humidity reference but they did match my home thermostat for temperature. The real test is to see how they operate over the long term. For some of the negative reviews, this unit is not made by Honeywell but by Hideki and sold under the Honeywell brand. Hideki is not a no name company, but a large multinational company that has been around 20 years. from Amazon.com It is so nice when things just work great out of the box.
