QUESTION: Hi - interested in E8400 as the BFB cpu. Need mobo with 2 PCIeX16 slots.

wbs3238 asks (1 year ago)
I need slot capacity for two graphics cards but NOT for SLI or Crossfire. I want to use the OS (win XP) to simultaneously run four displays. I already have 4 19" CRTs - still useable. My need is for intensive 2D graphics with 3 open windows for streaming data and dynamic chart refresh with 3 additional windows open - Extensive application and multitasking. I do from time to time game but gaming is secondary. OC is midrange - never push upper limits. I also have 7200rpm PATA HD that I want to use for the time being. Would appreciate you imput on MOBOs, graphics cards, memory (4gb)with specific models and Manu. Thanks in advance

Hi wbs; I'm sorta new so am stuck on BFB, But March 2008 Maximum PC magazine has review on the rather pricey Asus P5E3 Premium MB, with comments on other versions, that use Intel Proc's ( like Your 8400 I think) and have 3 PCIx Slots; 2 run 16x and 1 @ 4x. (See Page 74-75) also is a XFX Nforce 7801 sli that runs slots at 16x,16xand 1x. Your question's a month old so you may have solved it already. I think they still have a port for PATA. Tiger Direct has good descriptions of the MOBOs they carry; I've got a lot from them ok. Jack.
