it is true that if a piece of food on the chopping grid is too thick or overlaps onto the edges at all it can be very difficult if not impossible to whack it on through the grid.
this product is great for chopping walnuts and almonds in uniform size pieces.
if you want to spend time chopping vegetables with a conventional knife, then don't buy this product.
it wasn't so easy for me to push it down like they show on tv; i really had to put some muscle in it - but, it did it and the choppings were uniform.

it's way to small for dough making and is generally to small for slicing vegetables for a family of 4.
a family member tried to crush ice cubes with my old quick n easy and the chopping blades broke from the plastic.

i've used it both for chopping the the bowl and shredding through the shoot and had no problems at all.
