I have had a lot of different choppers and not been pleased with any. This is the BEST! from Amazon.com The first time I tried this chopper was in the middle of throwing a dinner party -- I was making salsa fresca and needed to chop lots of tomatoes, onions, and cilantro -- what a MESS! The chopper handles "crisp" things like apples and onions and raw potatoes okay (unfortunately, only in very small quantities, so it's usually more time-efficient to just do them by hand), but with anything slightly softer like tomatoes -- forget it. from Amazon.com The Zyliss Comfort Food Chopper is great for quickly chopping firm items, like nuts or cranberries. There is a small flimsy piece of plastic that prevents chopped food from moving past the blades into the back of the unit. from Amazon.com I was under the impression that the Zyliss would make short work of onions and other vegetables. I was led to believe that if you placed said vegetables in the Zyliss and thumped the handle a few times, it would chop the contents of the cup into numerous small pieces, quickly and with minimal effort.

To be fair, it works quite well with garlic.
