the picture quality is excellent.
had the time or interest, since i don't watch much tv, the little i do watch is usually available in high-def and i bought this rig to watch high def sports and movies (both of which it excells at).
i am a big sports fan and so far i have watched the nba playoffs, the indy 500, some baseball, and a little nfl network and there is absolutely no blur or distortion in fast action sports.
hooked up the new samsung blu-ray, a near-new panasonic dvd/vcr recorder/player, and an insight cable hddvr - all three using hdmi cables.
regular dvd and hd cable have an excellent picture as well.
the extra six inches make a huge difference watching movies.
after setting it up and putting a dvd in, i was so impressed.

we rent from amazon movies all the time, which has saved money on our cable bill since we were able to reduce our plan.

the lcd definetely has a better picture and sound, but for a 50 inch tv the plasma still has a good picture and i couldn't be happier with it.

picture quality is 1st class, thx to samsungs lastest ccfl-lit panel, but bluish-hue in dark areas presents.
the picture is so sharp and crisp i'm going to have to do a bit of research because i'm curious how samsung manages it.
shows that broadcast in 1080i are clear and vibrant most of the time but older shows and movies are kinda dull and hazy.
movies look great running at 1080p/24!

i didn't have to touch the tv once to setup the wii, dvd, vcr, audio reciever, it was all done with the remote.
it also uses something that sony calls motionflow which helps to smooth out the image when you are watching fast-action pictures.
i watched the descent on blu-ray as my first movie, mainly because it's a very dark movie, and i wanted to see what the black levels were like.

same issue with my dvds, smart stretch isn't very intuitive and results in a bar on top, bar on bottom and very wide looking people.
we called sharp prior to making this purchase and they seemed very customer oriented vs.

3 hdmi inputs allowed direct hookup of my u-verse dvr, dvd, and pc, bypassing the a/v reciever (the sony had 1 input).
just ordered a samsung blue ray dvd player from crutchfield and cant wait to see that on this set.
also if watching a dvd the tv remembers the settings that are programmed into that particular imput even though they may be different from the settings while watching normal tv channels.

may be able to tell the difference in a 120hz tv for some very fast action sports like hockey.
sound is not great, but with any large tv, you will probably want to buy a sound system for watching movies and playing video games.
