kept it on the auto setting almost the entire time, and it did a fantastic job!

since l.ma thought this was a place to review a seller and ended up giving a product a 1 star rating i am giving it a 5 star rating to balance out his/her nonsense.
and with the variety of settings it can do just about anything you need.
i haven't even scratched the surface of everything that this flash can do, manual mode, etc, since i got it 2 days before the wedding and didn't have time to explore its features.
remember to use the exposure comp - for dark subjects and + for light subjects and then let the flash and camera do the work on program.
i don't understand all the features, but it's automatic enough to take great pix.
it has new features designed to integrate with the 1d mark iii camera's interface, however i don't own that camera and can't tell you how that works.
it does a great ob of changing settings as your shooting event changes.
i recently used it at a convention, think i will love it more once i get used to all the custom settings.
however it is very expensive, and the older pw units don't have ttl so if you don't set your power setting correctly the first time you end up having to walk to/from different flash units to change
if you're getting this speedlight (extreme overkill for most users but loaded with increadible features...as you can tell from the other rave reviews) then purchase it with the delux acc kit.
the camera balance is certainly compromised to a degree, but you can get use to it.
great product, excellent backup flash or for main usage, canon flashes are very reliable and this one have great features and outstanting output for its price.
the right flash can make or break any photo, and this one allows you to use it both automatically and manually.its features may be a little overwhelming for a person who is new to photography, but
i am a little overwhelmed with the manual settings but it is so smart it makes even the ignorant look good.
the flash automatically adjusts the white balance and gives you the flexibility of aiming the flash indirectly, producing better lighting overall.
it's a phenomenal unit that syncs with all the features of the g9 and provides fantastic illumination at some of the distances i've worked in.
i also noticed that i need to upgrade to a inferred auto focus, so i can actually use it at night, because it is horrible for low light settings.
great for people who want more than the built-in flash can offer, but without needing to be a programmer to use.
but for more features and fast actions, get the sb-600 or better yet the sb-800.
i took portraits of my dh trying the various settings--straight on and with the flash bounced.
this can easily be fixed with photoshop or any other number of photo editing programs.
- the white balance is never quite right for me, it's always far too warm for my taste.
and the difference seems less now, so keep that in mind.) the 580ex is overall a better unit with the additional features and if the price is not a major factor to you, it is probably worth getting.
what can i say, it's a canon, well made, works as expected, plenty of features.
previously, when shooting in low light settings, the camera/lens would struggle to focus and the flash would emit several highly annoying test flashes.
my favorite feature is the white balance compensation.
it may take some time to get used to all the features of this flash, since this little flash has so many features.
the command wheel is nice to change settings, but it is a little confusing in the back and forth between what button to push for what setting.
no extra settings are needed.
what a great flash...way more features than i expected.
the bottom line: a fantastic balance of price without compromising features.
excellent flash with lots of features.
the product works right out of the box and is so versatile that i'll probably never use all its features.
i didn't need all the features of thepricier sb-800, so the 600 is perfect for me.it is well made, as one would expect from nikon.so far, it works like a dream, also to be expected from nikon.
i'm using it with a film slr so i can't take advantage of all the features until i get a digital.
it would be nice to have a basic sheet to say what settings or ways to use it.i did have a few bad shots initially due to a manual setting being added while playing with it.
strengths: quality & features weaknesses: weight & size summary: this a great flash to have...it's a must have!!!
just set the flash to one of the auto modes (ttl, etc...) and it reads your camera settings and provides just the right amount of light.
it is so powerful in small settings, that i definitely have to use a diffuser so as not to create shadows.
that's all there is to it - no more power, no more features, works with the existing flash system and is future proof to the e3 camera back.
my camera: my newest camera is an olympus e-520, which has all the communication capability necessary to use the fl-50r's features.
if you dig real deep on the panasonic site under "compatibility," you'll learn that panasonic and olympus teamed up on panasonic's new high end camera.

so from my own little bit of experience, i'd say the 3 settings on this slave flash extend it between (min.
on 'high' setting, allows upwards of 20ft.
we took group photos of the family this christmas and they came out so much better, even on the mid setting.
you will need to think this through since there are no wires going from the flash to the camera so how far the subject is from you will determine the setting you choose.
there is little reference in the sb instruction manual to the cp camera line, and it is difficult to determine how many of the features of the sb800 can be used with the cp camera.
i haven't used the remote features yet, but i'm sure this works just as well.
very quick recovery time time, and great auto features.
it has many nice features and is versatile.
it has all the basic necessities as well as coupling with the zoom lens settings for flash optimization (sony and konica/minolta only).
despite being huge...it meters quite accurately ..powerful flash...sony ..you should try to have this same features in a smaller package.
it is interesting to observe the flash match with the camera & lens as i focus and zoom the flash mirrors my actions to insure the exposure setting is correct.
it suits its purpose indoors when indoor lighting is low or when the existing lighting is of the wrong color temperature and hard to get a good white balance from.
although less powerful than the f56am, it's still powerful enough for most common indoor family photography, even when using power reducing features like bounce cards, etc.
you can control the length of the flash and there are so many other great features, it's hard not to recommend this flash.
very powerful flash, very flexible and with welcome features like wireless remote control.
the wireless features are great, anyone that is serious about the best lighting this is a must!
all of the features including the remote flash work.
great ttl features.
you have to spend some time with the manual to fully utilize its features.
it has an impressive ability to cast light up to several metres away (depending on settings).
needless to say it will do all sorts of ttl features that you can think of.
i got it today, still trying to figure out features.
has easy settings for the flash adjustment.what more could you ask for from this product.
i was a bit worried about purchasing this product based on many of the other customers reviews but because i wanted a relatively powerful program, and there were few others available, i went ahead
with our kids in elementery school and the seasonal programs in a big fairly dark gymnasium it's wonderful to get a 30+ ft light source for pictures.
this flash is perfect for one shoot, just point and it will review all the settings in the kodak p880 camera and it make all the adjustment to take the perfect photo.
it provides a nice balance of light and, when using the angled flash, it provides a soft composition that works just fine.
you also can change the settings manually.
all features work as advertised with the ability to bounce the flash especially handy.
had a choose between the hvlf1000 but choose the one which has more features and it offered more bang for the buck.
lens weaknesses: no direct conection with my sony mvc cd400 camera summary: had a choose between the hvlf1000 but choose the one which has more features and it offered more bang for the buck.
summary: (edited july 04th by burch41) all told this flash has all the features for a beginner or even a professional photographer.

all told this flash has all the features for a beginner or even a professional photographer.
the only reason i didn't give this flash five stars is because it isn't immediately intuitive to set all the cool features ion manual mode.
...that photographers shooting close-ups want an affordable ring flash with professional features.
i haven't learned all the features but right out of the box, and set to auto mode, the flash works great.
after a little experimentation i discovered that i get the best images by using the aperature priority setting.
notwithstanding the previous review i have to point out that the em-140dg manual, page 18, (available for download from sigma website) does not include the nikon d50 in its compatibility list.
so, for a about a price of sb-600 you get a flash that has almost all of the features and is even more powerful than sb-800 (from what i see it only lacks pc sync - but i never used it anyway).
(its a shame sigma doesn't include a booklet in the package that has some of its salient features)
this is a good flash with many advance features which can only be found in a high end and expensive unit.
but, as i soon discovered, it doesn't work well with program mode.
missing features: it needs a battery level indicator.
